Removing Wax from Hardwood Floors
synopsis by: Augustin M.
Removing wax from hardwood floors, usually when your floors are mopped a lot using traditional hardwood floor cleaners there would be a waxy build up on your floor. It is recommended to use these not more than 4 times a year. Even down to 2 or one time in a year is best because it is not that necessary, Floors have a finish on them and they are just going to be shiny if they are clean and there is no need to apply this every single time because it’s going to build up wax. The best good thing to clean your floor is vinegar and water. A splash of vinegar and a bucket of water will clean your floor and they will be looking nice and shiny and there will be no waxy build up. It will keep you from spending money on those traditional hardwood floor cleaner all the time.
If you got wax on your floor from maybe a candle that spilled. Then you will be needing a different cleaning scheme. You may have to try to scrape it off with your fingernail or something that will take them off. if there is wax all over the floor do not use hardwood floor cleaner, you are going have to get some mineral spirits and steel wool. Caution should however be observed when using mineral spirits. Although it is mild and safe to use around the house it is highly flammable and one should ventilate well the area when you are using mineral spirits and keep it well away from children or store them safely in your basement.
You need to wear gloves for this one as a precaution to prevent skin irritation when in contact with Mineral spirits. There may be areas that wax will be all over the floor and getting through hard to get areas or penetrating through cracks or crevices. Then you want to scrub that with your steel wool and mineral spirits. Scrub it in the direction of the grain and do not change your direction crossing the grain because this would leave a very bad mark on the floor. You will find it hard to correct that mistake later on because you would have to maybe sandpaper it and apply some varnish or whatever your hardwood floor will require. So do not use traditional hardwood floor cleaners every time you clean your floors just use vinegar and a bucket of water to get the job done and saves you a lot.
