Lawn Mower Repair: Starter
video synopsis on lawn mower repair by: Zarrah T.
This time we will discuss about how to replace the rope on your Lawn Mower Rewind Starter
Hello welcome to Glen’s small engine, Greenville TX, home of the free repair videos for outdoor power equipment.
This video I will show you how to fix the rewind from your lawn mower, the rope, this rope. I’m gonna show you how to put a rope in it…for your lawn mower repair.
On this mower first thing you’re gonna do, take these 3 screws to start off. (removes the screw to remove coil housing).
There is our old rope and we got our new rope here. We’re gonna take this thing out. (the bolt that holds the wheel in place)
There is our nut on our old rope right there. We’re gonna take the old rope out, there is the other end of it. (removes the end of the old rope). Be very careful when you remove this wheel spring, they’re dangerous, they’ll jump out. Spring looks ok . We’re gonna oil it and put little bit of grease. We’re gonna run our rope back to this hole, just like that, pull it out like that, we’re gonna tie a know in it, just like that. (return the bolt that holds the wheel in place). Our rope just broke so and the spring’s ok, so there’s no need to take the spring out.
All seems to be working good and loose. There is a little nut right here. We’re gonna walk around here and pull our rope back up to that nut , right there. Now we’re gonna short wind our spring, just like this. (wrap the rope around the wheel). We’re gonna wind our spring the way that the rope pulls out. Wind it up until you feel it’s tighten up, don’t go too far or you’ll break the spring.
Just keep going with it, whenever you feel it start to bind up a little bit. We’re right about there starting to bind up so we wanna back it up a full turn and now we’re gonna run our rope back up to this hole. The reason you back it off is because when you pull the rope out you don’t want the spring to bottom out, you want the rope to bottom out first. You don’t want to use the spring all the way up otherwise when you pull the rope all the way out, you’ll break the spring.
Alright we’re ready to put our old handle back now, we’re gonna take this out of the old handle like that. Run this rope back up to your handle, just like that, tie a knot in it. Put this thing back down over where it was.
There you go. (Pull the rope back and forth). You’re ready to go back on your mower.
Now whenever you have to replace the rope of your mower you know what to do. See you on the next session.
